Some background info.
About the artist:
I began dabbling in art at the age of 10. The following year I discovered the music of Elvis. It wasn't long before I began combining the two interests producing some Elvis water colours that I suddenly found my niche. When later on I showed one of these to my art teacher at sixth form college it was he who encouraged me to try selling my works.
| (It was around this time when aged 16 I was diagnosed with Retinitus Pigmentosa (RP) - an eye disease that causes blindness. RP is one of those conditions which symptoms may be more commonly known than its name. To help spread awareness of RP and to help anyone who may relate to the symptoms I have added a page about my own experiences and a link to an RP Group site. Click on my RP PAGE in the menu.) |
When a family friend left me a half-used set of oil paints I took to them immediately; and have yet to paint with anything else since. Needing to go out to work I didn't attend art college but kept up the painting at home, receiving a number of commissions painting icons, family members and even pets. It was during this period between 1985-87 I produced "A Little Less Conversation" , "Marilyn" and "Autumn in Sinatra ", the latter inspired by the splendour of Fall in the state of New York during a trip there.
For the next fifteen years I pursued my other great interest, music, working as a mobile deejay in London and running a disco agency until my diminishing sight forced me to give up. It wasn't until 2004 I felt the urge to return to painting again.
Being an untrained artist means I paint purely on instinct. You will see from browsing through the galleries how I like to experiment with colour. You will also see some images painted in a pointism style that has proved popular.
Nowadays many such images are created using modern technology. I would like to think that by browsing through my galleries you will sense not only my love of oil painting but also the fascination I have with the icons I paint.
In the same way impersonators pay tribute to whomever they impersonate I pay tribute by painting them.
